CHERRY BLOSSOMS •

Prunus

Cherry Blossoms come in bright colours and are amongst the most beautiful flowers in the world. The flower is so popular that the Cherry Blossom Festival is celebrated in its honour during the months of March and April. A pale pink variety of the Cherry Blossom is the unofficial national flower of Japan. After blooming they usually fall within a week.

Uses

Both the leaves and Cherry Blossom are edible and are used as food ingredients in Japan. The blossoms are pickled in salt andumezu (ume vinegar) and used for coaxing out flavour in wagashi (a traditional Japanese confectionary) or anpan (a Japanese sweet bun).
